1.The budget: The price of an air conditioner depends on its type. Think about the budget you want to spend for your unit.

– Window Air Conditioners: Ranges from $250 to $500, depending on cooling capacity. The price increases for models with extra features

– Through-the-wall air conditioners: ranging in price from $400 to $700 and above, depending on features.

– Standard portable air conditioners: usually priced from $400 to $700.

– Mini-split air conditioners: the most expensive room cooling options, ranging in price from $900 for a single-zone system to more than $2,500 for multi-zone systems.

2. The type of space you were living: If you have your own home then you can install any type of Ac unit but for the people who have just rented    a house then chances are restrictions against installing a window air conditioner or thru-wall air conditioner. So Portable air conditioner is the best for you.

3. The space of the room: Each type of AC unit requires different amount of floor space so they work efficiently.

4. The type of windows you have: If you are deciding between a portable or a window AC only, consider the type of windows you have in the space you want to get cooled.

Homeowners find it difficult to choose the correct size of air conditioner that is suitable for their specific needs. Considering that only the right size of AC unit could efficiently and effectively keep you and your loved ones comfortable, choosing the suitable size for your room is very important.  Keep in mind that installing a too big air conditioner unit use more electricity while having a too small unit could not provide your room the comfortable temperature.

Below are the factors you must consider in order to get the correct size for your room.

AC Sizing

  • If the room is very sunny, increase the size by 10%. If it is very shady, decrease the size by 10%.
  • If more than two people regularly occupy the room, add 600 BTUs per hour for each additional person to the size selected.

When you’re planning to install an air conditioner to get your family ready for the summer season, you have to understand first all the information regarding your AC. So here are quick information you need to know.

air conditioner informationHow it affects your electric bills?

The air conditioner is one of the home equipments that consumes large amounts of electricity. But to help you lessen the amounts of electricity it consumes, always make sure that your unit is not dirty. Once it dirty it will work double time and this will make your bill high.

AC Installation

Your safety is the most important of all. So if you aren’t sure on how to install it and its your first time to install an air conditioning unit, call an AC repair technician. Let them do the work to insure your safety at home while using the AC unit.

Air conditioning repair and maintenance

Keep your unit clean so perform a regular maintenance. You can do this by removing its filter and clean it with water. If you ever find out a serious problem with your AC then let the expert AC technician do the repair.

Remember the above information and you can use your air conditioner anytime without having a problem.

Air Conditioner Temperature

If you want to feel comfortable with the temperature around you every summer then you just have to play the (humidity) percentage. So the first thing you need to do is to reduce the relative humidity in your house. EPA recommends the “ideal” humidity level of 60% during summer and 25% to 40% in the winter.

You could also try the experiment below to find the sweet spot for your family.

When everyone is home, secretly set your thermostat to 81°F for few hours. See how your family reacts. Over the next few days for the same period of time, drop the temperature 2°F until you reach 71°F. Chances are that your family will be generally comfortable between 73°F and 79°F when they are active.

At night when you go to sleep, your core body temperature lowers and heat radiates from your extremities. A National Institute of Health study found the best sleep happens as the body reaches “thermoneutrality” when environmental temperatures are at 86°F (nude and uncovered) or 60 to 66°F (wearing pajamas and covered by one sheet).

If you think you are already paying too much for your air conditioner bill, then this is the time to find a solution on how to avoid the problem next time you will get your monthly electric bill.

Below are the three and effective tips from Andrew Seale.

Lower Your Air Conditioning BillTip : Optimize Your Air Conditioner

Turning the thermostat on your air conditioner up a degree or two can make a big difference to your air conditioning bill. As well, inspect and clean the filters and coils on your unit and, if possible, place the unit in the shade.

Tip 2: Time It Right

If your A/C has a programmable thermostat, set it so that it turns the thermostat up or off during peak hours (weekday afternoons from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m.) when you’re not at home.

If the temperature goes down at night, toss on the ceiling fans – they use 10 per cent of the power that central air requires. If you don’t have them, they cost around $600 to $1,500 including installation.

Tip 3: Keep It Covered

When it comes to insurance, unfortunately your A/C is not covered for basic wear and tear. However, if extreme weather (much like we’ve seen as of late) has damaged your central air unit – your policy might come to your aid. You can, however, purchase specific policies geared towards protecting your heating, ventilation and air conditioning units.

Better Business Bureau.

Better Business Bureau.

If you are having a hard time finding for the trustworthy air conditioning repair company, the only source of information you can lean on is the internet.

You have to take advantage of the internet because this is where you can find various Ac repair companies in your area. Search for a company, look at their website and explore the web to look for the company reviews and recommendation.  You can find a lot of review sites out there and you can also look at their twitter and Facebook page to see what their followers and fans are saying.

But the excellent place where you could find a trustworthy AC repair company is the Better Business Bureau. You can find their the customer’s complaints and how the company responded to the complaint.  Everyone will know the company’s quality of service via BBB so do not forget to check it before choosing a company to call.

Keeping your air conditioner more efficient isn’t that hard task to do. You only need to learn some basic knowledge.

Air Conditioner Maintenance TipsMatt Dunn an expert service technician for Rolf Griffin advised us to use a programmable thermostat. Using it will allow you to raise the temperature while you are not around and automatically cool the house before you get home.

Most common mistakes we do: Shutting off the AC on a daily basis.

“You’re shutting it off at the hottest part of the day, so when you come home, it’s 89 degrees in your house, and you want it to go to 70, it’s got 19 degrees to overcome, which it’s not going to be able to do during the heat,” Dunn said. “It’s going to catch up at night. So, if you can maintain that temperature a little closer to what you want during the day, it’ll be less on your energy bill than trying to overcome it all at once.”

Other things to remember

–          Check your filter every month

–          Clean the outside coil regularly

–          Give the condensing unit room to breathe

“The main thing is you want two to three feet around the outside of the condensing unit, so the air can flow there freely,” Dunn said. “That helps with the efficiency and it doesn’t have to work as hard to get to the temperature it needs to be to dissipate the heat outdoors.”

air conditioning maintenance

Eddie Ramos a manager of East Longmeadow’s Rocky’s Hardware discussed with 22News about how to keep your air conditioning working at its best.

So what is his advice when it comes to window units?

One of his advices is, rinse your window unit’s filter often. It is important to keep it blowing clean air. Most window units have easy to remove filter so it should be easy for you to do it yourself.

Second, to avoid leakage from front or back make sure to install it leveled. Also a proper installation is also a matter of safety.

Lastly, do not plug your unit into an extension cord. Air conditioner needs a lot of power so they should be on their dedicated circuits.

Most people using a gas central heating so therefore most of us didn’t know what oil central heating. After I knew that one of my friends using oil central heating and since I am using the gas one, I did a research to know if what the advantages of using gas heating system are. However I found out there are more disadvantages than advantage from using it.

So below are the pieces of information I found!

What are the advantages of oil central heating?

  • The biggest and most attractive advantage for installing oil central heating is the fact that oil is a very efficient fuel, so you will enjoy a good return on every unit of energy.
  • Oil heating is a good option if your household is not connected to the mains gas network (often rural properties)

What are the disadvantages of oil central heating?

Oil is expensive and is likely to rise in cost.

  • As oil is delivered by road there is a possibility that you could run out while you wait for your next delivery. Usually it is monitored and your supplier will be notified.
  • Installing an oil central heating system from scratch can be expensive and disruptive. The storage tank can also be a bit of an eyesore but you could always get an underground one.

Home Automation & Solar Integration & Installation CompanyDo you have HVAC system at home yet you don’t know how important it is aside from allowing you to control your home temperature at anytime?

Here I found an article that will surely give us all knowledge on how important is HVAC and its regular maintenance. Not just to provide us comfort but as well as prevent us from different kind of air disease.

An important issue that cannot be overlooked when considering the importance of HVAC maintenance is indoor air quality, or IAQ. The operating condition of HVAC equipment is essential to your IAQ. Poor IAQ is estimated to cause 1.3 million deaths worldwide per year. Poor IAQ means you are unprotected from particulate matter:

Ozone can have a pronounced effect on your health by causing breathing problems, asthma, reduced lung function, and lung diseases.

Nitrogen Dioxide increases the symptoms of bronchitis is asthmatic children and causes reduced lung function.

Airborne Diseases are any diseases which are caused by pathogens and transmitted through the air. These viruses and bacteria can be spread through coughing, sneezing, laughing, or through personal contact. These pathogens ride on either dust particles or small respiratory droplets and can stay suspended in the air. They can cause inflammation in the nose, throat, sinuses and lungs.

Selecting a New Water Heater | Department of EnergyAlmost homeowners who used HVAC wants to find some ways on how to lower their energy cost. And YES I am one of them. For this reason, I find ways on how to make this happened and save more money.

Continue reading below so you can also have the tips I applied to cut the energy cost I used for my heating system.

If your central heating system uses radiators (i.e. a ‘wet’ system), the ideal controls to have are:

A room thermostat – this allows you to set your preferred temperature, typically between 18°C – 21°C. As soon as the room reaches that temperature, the thermostat will switch off the hot water supply to radiators, then when the temperature drops it will turn back on again.

A cylinder thermostat (if you have a hot water tank) – this controls the temperature of hot water leaving the hot water storage tank. The thermostat is usually fitted to the tank itself, with the temperature sensor at the back, in contact with the cylinder inside. Your thermostat should be set to no more than 60°C. Any higher, and your energy bills could increase.

A programmer – this controls when your heating and hot water come on and go off, so you only have them on when needed. If you are unsure how to set your programmer, contact us for advice.

One of a friend of mine asked me some tips on how to make sure that the furnace you going to choose is a high-efficiency furnace. Buying a new furnace isn’t easy because you only want to have the best furnace and the furnace that will save you money over the long run.

HowStuffWorks "How To Repair Gas Furnaces: Tips and Guidelines"Upon my research just to help my friends, I found these very helpful buying guidelines so let me share it with you as well.

How do most people go about buying a furnace? First, they call contractors and ask for estimates. To prepare this report, we did too. More than 500 specialists in residential heating and air conditioning told us about their experiences in installing and maintaining heating equipment.

Size matters–a lot. The furnace’s specifications should fit your needs. A furnace that’s too small won’t keep your house comfortable during extremely-cold weather.

Efficiency also matters. Gas is currently the most common heating fuel and most new central-heating systems use gas. How efficiently a furnace converts gas into heating energy is reflected in its annual fuel-utilization-efficiency (AFUE) rating, which is measured as a percentage.

You can read the rest of the article here. You can also read in the source about how to determine if your furnace needs a repair or a replacement.

Repair or replace?

If your gas furnace falters or fails, a few simple procedures may save you the cost and trouble of seeking professional help:

  • If you’re getting low airflow, check the air filter on the furnace; a clogged filter could cut airflow to a trickle.
  • See if there are loose wires or a malfunction in the thermostat. For an electronic thermostat that runs on batteries, try changing them.
  • Are fuses burned out or circuit breakers tripped? If so, power may have been cut to the fan or circuit board.
